From a gold rush town Parkes has progressed to become a thriving commerce centre serving a rich agricultural district. The town has long been known for it's Radio Telescope that was featured in the hit Australian movie 'The Dish'. The Telescope is 20 minutes north of Parkes and visitors are welcome between 8.30am to 4.15pm. Other attraction around Parkes include the Parkes Motor Museum, The Henry Parkes Historical Museam, BHP Gold Mine, Pioneer Park Vintage Village and Machinery Museam, Parkes Ostrich farm, Bushman's Hill Development and the annual Elvis Revival held in January. Also Tennis, Golf, Bowls, Squash, Olympic Swimming Pool.
