Parkes has a population around 10,000. From a gold rush town Parkes has progressed to become a thriving commerce centre serving a rich agricultural district. The town has long been known for it's Radio Telescope that was featured in the hit Australian movie 'The Dish'. The Telescope is 20 minutes north of Parkes and visitors are welcome between 8.30am to 4.15pm. Other attraction around Parkes include the Parkes Motor Museum, The Henrey Parkes Historical Museam, Pioneer Park Vintage Village and Machinery Museam, Parkes Ostrich farm and the annual Elvis Revival held in January.
